These vary from site to site, please see the document relevant to the place where you plan to put up the headstone.

  • When I buy a headstone, what exactly is included in the cost?

The stone itself & the erection of the monument

Inscriptions and engravings, please note that more elaborate designs such as photographs are not included in the fee

  • How soon after a burial can I put up a headstone?

This varies from site to site and the wishes of the deceased.

At Dardistown, Newlands Cross, and Palmerstown - headstones can be erected immediately after burial.

At Glasnevin and Goldenbridge, applications seeking approval to put up the headstone need to be approved. Once approval is granted, a foundation needs to be put in place.

In some cases, parties choose to erect the headstone prior to passing, contact the Monuments team for further information on this service.

  • What am I permitted to put on a grave?

This varies from site to site, please read the rules and regulations document associated with the site that applies to you because there are specific things that you should be aware of when erecting a headstone.

  • What can I put on the headstone itself?

Most people opt for inscriptions that denote the name and date of death, and in some cases a saying or appropriate words. You can also choose to have a photograph or artwork etched onto the stone. Our monuments team are skilled craftspeople who can tailor designs to your specific needs, contact (01) 8301948 / 0863313432 for more information.
